Sometimes, bedtime can be so dull, especially for children. There’s too much cartoon to watch and lots of games to play. If, by any chance, your child falls asleep early enough, there’s a high possibility of him/her waking up in the middle of the night. This will, without a doubt, wreak havoc to your sleeping pattern.

Are your kids uncomfortable around bedtime? Do they often wake you up in the night due to a lack of sleep? Here are some reasons your kids do not fall asleep.

Poor Bedtime Habits

At their designated sleep time, your children may not feel tired. Dealing with a fussy toddler or rushing around in the morning due to your child’s struggle to wake up can be so frustrating. The good news is, it is not a permanent problem. Since most sleeping troubles are associated with daytime habits and bedtime schedules, you can adjust it with your baby. It will only use a little patience and discipline, and your child will be on track to more peaceful nights.

You Act as a Sleep Help

acting as a sleep helpIf you soothe your baby to sleep every night, he might never learn to sleep on his own. He will always cry for his sleep help, which is you. You may try laying him on bed when sleep starts setting in but not yet sound asleep. This will make him a self-soother who will eventually learn to fall asleep on his own even when he loses sleep in the middle of the night.

Insomnia

Insomnia is the incapacity to fall asleep, leading to unrefreshing sleep. While this problem resolves itself with time, prolonged insomnia can significantly impair your child’s performance during the day resulting in sleeping disorder. Stress and caffeine are the major causes of insomnia, save for other medical conditions. It would help if you acted as your child’s detective by ensuring that nothing is bothering their small minds as well as limiting their caffeine intake past lunchtime.

Bedtime Fears

Most kids are afraid of darkness. If your baby is good at imagining things, a simple noise, maybe from a pet walking down the hall, can be so frightening to him/her. To distract your baby from too much imagination, make sure his/her room is full of stuff that makes him/her feel good. Could be his/her favorite toys, or a pet dog that assures him/her of safety illusions from imaginable monsters.
