.......a little bit bout me....... My favorite subject in school was history so you can figure why this site is here. I grew up in Boyle Heights and now reside in City Terrace. So where does Lincoln Heights come in? During my childhood years almost every weekend I visited my relatives that live in Lincoln Heights. On one end from across the street from Lincoln High School to the other end on Griffin Ave. So I was up and down North Broadway as well as to Lincoln Park on my weekend visits. My childhood memories of Lincoln Heights are the festive events at Lincoln Park, the bowling alley, drinking that large jug of Mother's Pride Root Beer or Strawberry soda getting a belly ache (remember the large glass bottle with the handle?), Flat Top, Panaderias (Mexican bakeries), and exploring the hills of Lincoln Heights with my cousins. Oh, and the many times my cousins took me around Lincoln Heights and got me into trouble. ![]() Historically Lincoln Heights is unknown in the early years before 1900 and what is presented here is just a drop in the bucket. Lincoln Heights is more than the Selig Zoo, Carousel, Animal Farms, etc. What about Lincoln Heights before 1900? How the introduction of the railroad changed LH forever, farming and grazing was out and subdividing and building was in. The efforts to bring water and transportation to East Los Angeles. Also the people that were brave enough to venture out of the City limit or other parts of the this country or world into Lincoln Heights to settle in new land. Lincoln Heights was the mold for future communities beyond the Los Angeles River. This first suburb did not last very long though before other suburbs were created. The history of Lincoln Heights is an untapped area and fully documenting the history would be an educational gold mine for this community. Javi
